Ideally, the drive testers do on site evaluation to decide whether DT result is in acceptable value or not? If the result of dive test is not in acceptable value following step can be done as quick solution:
1. If the RxLevel is bad compared with coverage plot :
- Please describe contour condition. If there’s a hill/valley, trees, building, or any other obstacles take a picture to justify the condition
- Please check the antenna tilting, antenna azimuth and terrain condition. Inform all of this information in DT Report.
2. If sector of site that will be drive tested face to the sea and there is other coverage that face to the sea, dedicated mode must be in locked mode.
3. If the SQI is bad, please check used Speech codec whether it is in FullRate, HalfRate, and EFR. Ideally EFR gives the best SQI value
4. If RxQual is bad, please check whether hopping is active or not from Hopping Channel value in “Current Channel” Window in TEMS. If no hopping is active, there is possibility of Interference on BCCH channel. Do scan channel in idle mode to get info from where interference come from.

Data collection in the operator telecommunication usually use a hearing aid. Such as Tems Investigation made from Sony Ericsson shaped pocket and also software to install on the computer or PC to analyst abaout condition of the network to make wireless better.

On this article i will discuss about equipment is used for data collection such as:

Tems Investigation and Drive Test. What this?

Tems is measuring tool to make better wireless network optimization, collection data (Drive Test) and other analyst about measuring the quality of the signal and repair problems associated with the signal.

Definition Drive test
The process of measuring system on the move communication radio waves in the air from the direction of the transmitter / BTS to MS / Handphone or vice versa, using the mobile phone designed specifically for measurement.

Kinds and types of Drive Test
Drive Test is used for outdoor with the drive a car while Walk Test for indoor (in space) with the run (walk). Term test drive more commonly used than the walk test.

In drives test, operator cellular are using 2 techniques of collect data: Short call and long call.
- Mode Short Call used with set up a call for short, which means the call is short and repetitive
- Mode Long Call used with set up a parameter call to long without call termination.
